We are delighted to announce the appointment of prominent Nottingham lawyer, Nigel Elliott as Consultant in their Commercial Property department. Nigel, formerly of Fraser Brown and long time partner in the well known Nottingham firm of Eking Manning (now part of Geldards LLP), brings a wealth of experience, local connections and clients to Cleggs, further strengthening an already respected and established team headed by Cleggs’ Managing Director, Ian Torr.
With a specialism in Commercial Property, Landlord & Tenant and Insolvency, Nigel is also consulting editor for Butterworths Encyclopaedia of Forms & Precedents and fee paid lawyer Chairman of the Residential Property Tribunal Service (the merged Rent Assessment Committee and Leasehold Valuation Tribunal). Outside of the profession, he is President of Radcliffe-on-Trent Cricket Club.
Ian Torr commented, “Nigel’s name will be well known to all within the local business community and we are delighted to welcome to Cleggs a lawyer of his stature and reputation. Having known Nigel for many years on both a personal and professional level, I am more than confident that he will be instrumental in our plans for growth and fulfilment of our business objectives. Nigel’s arrival is intended to be the first of a number of key appointments over the following year, designed to facilitate our enhanced presence as a prominent Commercial and Private Client Law Firm in the Nottinghamshire area and beyond.”
“The Firm, which originally began in Nottingham in 1969, has undergone a number of changes over the years and is now firmly based in modern, business park, office accommodation easily accessed, lying as we do, on the side of the A52, from all parts of the East Midlands. We now deal exclusively in Commercial (including Commercial Litigation), Private Client and Personal Injury work and have witnessed a steady growth in profits in recent years. We intend to build on this and I envisage continued success and high service levels to all of our clients over the coming years.” (27/04/07)

HIPS - The latest (as at 18 September 2006)
The current position on HIPs is that the regime will still be rolled out on 1st June 2007 but will not now have to include within the pack itself a Home Condition Report (HCR). The HCR can be supplied on a voluntary basis and, according to the government will, in the fullness of time, either become compulsory resultant upon further regulation, or simply become standard on a market-driven basis. For the present however, the remaining elements of the HIP will be supplemented by an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) which will rate the property in terms of energy efficiency.
