David Vaughan-Birch
I qualified in 1991, and was made a Director on 1 October 2004. I was a partner in a practice in Torquay, Devon and I joined the firm in late 2003. I specialise in private and commercial litigation, and have particular interests in engineering disputes property and Landlord and Tenant/property claims, employment and environmental law. I have dealt with many large-scale actions (some of which have gone to the Court of Appeal), and have participated in several reported cases. I also deal with non-contentious matters such as drafting employment contracts and terms and conditions of trading.
I have a degree in Biophysics and a Master's degree in Biological Engineering, and live with my partner and our young son, Thomas in Denstone, a small village on the edge of the Pennines in East Staffordshire. I use my legal skills to help in my home village when I can, and I have advised the Denstone Youth Fund in negotiating the lease for a new play area in the centre of Denstone which was officially opened on 25 March 2006. The lease was granted by the Tom Boden Memorial Sports Trust, and hopefully is the first of many new projects to be undertaken by both organisations to benefit the villagers. My interests include hiking, mountain biking and sailing (I have competed at national level crewing a Fireball racing Dinghy, with little success). I have an obsessive interest in motorcycles, and currently ride a BMW R1150 GS (there's more about this splendid machine here). The best website for the 1150 GS is here. I have toured a fair bit of Europe by bike, including a solo trip to Morocco. I would very much like to tour Italy, just as soon as Thomas is old enough to wear a crash helmet. I enjoy food and drink, bad birdwatching, growing fruit and vegetables and cooking (by baking my own bread and making my own bacon and sausages).
